Geneva protesters against racism
Over 10,000
protesters in Geneva march against racism
More than
10,000 demonstrated in Geneva last night against violence and racism against
Black people.
The event
was held on the same day as the African-American man who was killed by police
in the United States, George Floyd, was buried in his home town of Houston,
Texas.
The march
was the first major event in Geneva since the start of the lockdown. To stay
within the rules, marchers were divided into groups of 300. Many wore masks and
carried hand sanitizer.
Speakers at
the march said police violence is only one aspect. Many pointed out Black
people have a harder time finding jobs in Switzerland, are disadvantaged in the
housing market and endure more street controls.
